Freed from the confines of the Coleman Oval for the first time this season, the Bad News delivered a shellacking to Transurban, triumphing in 2 and 2/3 innings after Transurban threw a hissy fit and quit. By then, the score was already 25-2, and the time for saving face was long past.
In a game full of offensive feats, the Bad News batted around not once, but twice, in the first inning -- and the first time through the order, every single one of the Bad Newsers would reach base and come around to score. Both Jay Bergen and Dave DaCosta contributed a pair of hits (Bergen with a homer, DaCosta with two triples) and a handful of RBIs, while Franc Crisafulli's already bloated average soared to a hefty .818 after another perfect evening (and a home run) at the plate. But the gaudiest stat line of the night belonged to Manager Damian "No Mercy" Nash (4-for-4, 2 HRs, 4 runs scored and 8 RBIs).
All that aside, Player of the Game honors was definitively awarded to Alicia Korney for maintaining some semblance of an accurate stat sheet. So there. Now I'm taking my (borrowed) bases and going home. I'm serious. I'm making a "Wrap it up" motion with my arm as I type this. This ump is totally unfair. I'm leaving. For real. Just try and stop me.
Next game (Updated!): The Bad News won't play again until Tuesday, June 17, when they take on Macy's at 6 p.m. at the Coleman Oval.
